Her practice explores identity, gender, and displacement through immersive environments that blend audio, image, and text. By weaving together fragmented narratives and sensory experiences, Han creates poetic spaces that reflect on transformation, vulnerability, and the search for belonging.

Growing up within a patriarchal family continues to shape Han’s work. She confronts the tensions embedded in such structures, questioning inherited narratives and the forces that shape identity. Her projects often take the form of experimental diaries, capturing moments of absurdity, introspection, and temporal drift across urban and natural landscapes.

Sound plays a central role in Han’s practice. Through layered audio landscapes, spoken word, and performative gestures, she constructs environments where memory, emotion, and spatial experience intersect. Her work frequently unfolds through installation and durational performance, inviting audiences into shifting states of intimacy and reflection.

Alongside her artistic practice, Han founded chimimora, a collaborative platform that gathers artists across disciplines and cultural contexts. Through experimental events, performances, workshops, and communal activities, Chimimora creates temporary spaces for dialogue around art, migration, and shared imagination.

At the core of Han’s work is an ongoing poetic exploration of memory and human connection, inviting audiences to encounter moments of fragility, empathy, and quiet transformation.

EDUCATION

MA Filmmaking (Sound Recording, Post-Production & Design), Goldsmiths College | 2024 – 2025

BA Fine Art with first honours, Goldsmiths College | 2020 – 2023

WORK EXPERIENCE

Founder & Curator | Chimimora, London | 2023 – Present
Facilitate interdisciplinary events, workshops, and artist-led gatherings exploring art, migration, identity, and collective creativity.

Sound Recordist & Designer | Freelance, London | 2023 – Present

Junior Fellow | Department of Art, Goldsmiths, University of London | 2023 – 2024

Retail work experience in the fashion luxury industry, London | 2023

Customer service at Soho House, London | 2021-2022

Marketing and Promotion in different music venues; Owner of a lifestyle vintage studio and blogger, China | 2018-2020

EXHIBITIONS & PERFORMANCES

2025

Bread as Story | San Mei Gallery, London | Apr 2025 – Group exhibition with performance and installation exploring addiction and ritual

Dominion | Safehouse, London | Mar 2025 – Experimental film addressing embodied memory

On the Verge / On the Cusp | The Koppel Project, London | Feb 2025 – Interactive installation and performance

2024

You Slap on My Face (Solo) | 23 Bar & Gallery, Bangkok | Nov 2024 – International solo exhibition combining live performance, video, and printed matter

Awakening | Safehouse, London | Sep 2024 – Video installation with performance

Rage | Off the Cuff, London | Jul 2024 – Sound performance and printed work

The Storm | SET Vault, London | May 2024 – Film screening

Born Out Upside Down | AMP Gallery, London | Mar 2024 – Performance work Write me an email

2023

Uncaging | Bar Bario, Amsterdam | Nov 2023 – Video installation Daughter

Baby Teeth | Bermondsey Project Space, London | Nov 2023 – Installation Poem 2 and film

Goldsmiths BA Fine Art Degree Show | London | Jun 2023 – Installations including Daughter and She wants me to have a baby, As we move forward

London Look | HFBK Hamburg | Apr 2023 – Exchange programme exhibition

2020 – 2022

寶成 | The Art Village, Rotorua, New Zealand | Jan 2022 | Screening

大老黑 | Private Villa, Shanghai | Jun 2020 | Group exhibition

Bandcamp Youtube

hangao9828@gmail.com

Instagram @two.eight_

Han Gao (b. 1998, Hunan, China) is a London-based interdisciplinary artist and sound designer working across moving image, poetry, performance, and sound.
