Han Gao (b. 1998, Hunan, China) is a London-based interdisciplinary artist and sound designer working across moving image, poetry, performance, and sound. Her practice explores identity, gender, and displacement through immersive environments that blend audio, image, and text. By weaving together fragmented narratives and sensory experiences, Han creates poetic spaces that reflect on transformation, vulnerability, and the search for belonging.
Growing up within a patriarchal family continues to shape Han’s work. She confronts the tensions embedded in such structures, questioning inherited narratives and the forces that shape identity. Her projects often take the form of experimental diaries, capturing moments of absurdity, introspection, and temporal drift across urban and natural landscapes.
Sound plays a central role in Han’s practice. Through layered audio landscapes, spoken word, and performative gestures, she constructs environments where memory, emotion, and spatial experience intersect. Her work frequently unfolds through installation and durational performance, inviting audiences into shifting states of intimacy and reflection.
Alongside her artistic practice, Han founded Chimimora, a collaborative platform that gathers artists across disciplines and cultural contexts. Through experimental events, performances, workshops, and communal activities, Chimimora creates temporary spaces for dialogue around art, migration, and shared imagination.
At the core of Gao’s work is an ongoing poetic exploration of memory and human connection, inviting audiences to encounter moments of fragility, empathy, and quiet transformation.
